Hertford based family brewer, McMullen, has partnered with local resident Lisa Graves, to take over the running of The Greyhound pub in Bengeo, located on the Northwest edge of Hertford. The new face of the pub will see the introduction of a café, initially two mornings a week, and a revitalised food offering, while still maintaining the feel of a traditional community pub.
The Greyhound is celebrating its new feel with a celebration evening on Saturday 04 April, welcoming both existing and new regulars to meet the new team and experience the refreshed offering at the pub. Local musical favourites, The Goldbacks, will be bringing their unique fusion of blues, jazz, soul and rock ‘n’ roll classics to the evening whilst guests enjoy tasters from the new food offering.
Lisa Graves, landlady of The Greyhound commented: “It has been an ambition for some time to take the reins of a local pub and when the opportunity arose to take on The Greyhound it was, for me, the obvious choice. We are looking to once again become the spirit and heart of the Bengeo community, welcoming everybody through our doors, from the great regulars, to the dog walkers, to anyone who may want to pop in for a coffee and a slice of cake on a weekday morning.”
Lisa continued: “My partner, Ray, and I have always had a passion for pubs. When we saw The Greyhound we knew it was an opportunity not to be missed and one where I could use my marketing background to promote this historical pub. We were amazed to find out that The Greyhound is, reputedly, the first pub in the McMullen estate, purchased by Peter McMullen on Boxing Day 1836. Everyone at McMullens’ has been amazingly supportive in helping Ray and I imprint our personality on the pub and make it feel like a real home, not just for ourselves and our family, but for the Bengeo people too.”
Gavin Mansfield, McMullens’ Tenancy Operations Manager commented: “Lisa and Ray have made The Greyhound feel like a proper community pub once again and we know that they will go on to make it a great success in the local area. With their work backgrounds, Lisa and Ray have all it takes to make the venue a place to go for not just the everyday drinker, but the whole family too.”
