Palmers Brewery

Tenancies: 57

Key Brands:

Overview:

Palmers Brewery is situated in Bridport in the heart of The Jurassic coast in southwest Dorset. This is Britain’s first natural World Heritage site and its 95 miles encompass the fossil record of over 180 million years of Earth history. Britain’s only thatched brewery, has been sited on the banks of the River Brit since 1794, which is on the southern edge of Bridport, a bustling market town.

Palmers Brewery is in the process of some significant changes, firstly during the early winter of 2008/09, a new range of pump clips was unveiled. The new range is cleaner, crisper and all together easier to read than their predecessors. There has also been a brewery book published last December, “The Story of a Dorset Brewer” by Tim Heald and it is now available through local bookshops, Palmers Wine Store and Palmers Direct.

Darren Batten who was appointed Head Brewer in 2006 is in the midst of overseeing a significant investment programme in our brewhouse, with new temperature controlled cellarage and racking plant being installed to go with the new cask washing machine that was installed in 2008.

Palmers continue to make substantial investments in their tenanted pub estate, which now numbers 55. In the days of branded pubs, their individuality is refreshing and many of them are either situated in leafy villages or close to our stunning coastline.

Demand for their ales continues to grow in the free trade, Copper Ale, Palmers Best Bitter, Dorset Gold, Palmers 200 and Tally Ho! are becoming more widely available. There has also been significant growth of trade in Palmers Wine Store, their thriving shop adjacent to The Brewery. Through Palmers Direct, customers are now able to buy a large range of ales, wines and memorabilia which will be delivered to anywhere on The UK Mainland. In 2009 Brewery Tours will run from Easter to the end of September and can be booked through Palmers Wine Store on (01308) 427500.
