Charles Wells Ltd was formed in 1876 and established itself as one of the country’s leading family brewers and pub operators. In 2006 the brewing division set up a joint venture with Young’s & Co plc to form Wells & Young’s Brewing Co Ltd – now a leading supplier of speciality beers in Britain and one of the biggest brewers of cask beer in the country.

Charles Wells Pub Company has an estate of pubs run on tenancy and lease agreements, successfully combining the heritage and experience of a family brewer with an innovative and creative approach to pub retailing. It targets being first choice for customers and consumers by offering the highest quality outlets, award winning induction programme and a comprehensive support team.

These fundamental business principles contributed to being named Pub Company of the Year (tenanted/leased 200+ outlets) at The Publican Awards 2009 when the judges commented “A worthy winner of the award, thanks to their strong collaborative partnership with their licensees and the innovative ways they continued to support them during this most challenging of periods”.
